NAME OR ADDRESS CHANGE
Are you a registered voter in Smith County and have moved from one address in Smith County to another address in Smith County or has your name changed? In order to process the change, your address and/or name change request must be received no later than 5 days before the upcoming election. If you have not updated your address and early voting has begun, an address update can be done during the early voting period. The voter may go to the early voting location within their county to update their address and vote.
If the voter elects to wait until the day of the election to update this information and the voter’s permanent voter registration record differs from the voter’s current address, the voter must complete an affidavit before being allowed to vote. The voter will be required to vote at the correct polling location.
If you move to a different county, it is not considered an address change. Your registration does not transfer to other counties in Tennessee. A voter must register in their new county by submitting a voter registration application at least 30 days before the election. The voter may register online, in person at the Election Office, or mail the application to us.
**NOTE: These rules apply even if you have been registered and voted in another county in Tennessee.
